UP elections: Find out who are the richest candidates here

uppollsOne thousand four hundred and fifty seven crorepatis contested the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The richest candidate is Nazir Ahmed of the Congress who has declared assets worth Rs 211 crore.

He is followed by the Shah Alam Urf Guddu Jamali of the bahujan Samaj Party with assets worth Rs 118 crore. Third on the list with assets worth Rs 114 crore is Satish Kumar Sharma of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

UP elections: Parties bombard ECI with complaints

eciLucknow, Feb 9: Officers of the Election Commission of India were bombarded with questions during their visit to Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party, BJP, BSP all had questions and complains. The BJP sought to know why no assurance was being given by the EC for the protection of Hindus who migrated from Kairana, Meerut and Muzzafarnagar.

SP, on the other hand, complained about the BJP and BSP for raking up communal feelings during the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The BJP also complained that the state police chief Javed Ahmed had been delaying permission for their campaign.

UP elections: Mulayam does a U-turn, will campaign for SP-Cong combine

akhilmulMulayam Singh Yadav did a reversal when he announced that he would campaign for the Samajwadi Party-Congress combine during the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Mulayam, who had initially refused to campaign citing differences, had a change of heart on Monday. The SP patriarch said that he would start campaigning for the alliance from Tuesday onwards.

Akhilesh Yadav will be the chief minister of the Uttar Pradesh and there are absolutely no differences in the family, the party’s supremo clarified.

UP elections: 168 candidates with criminal background in fray

img_0797Lucknow, Feb 4: There are 168 candidates with criminal cases contesting the first phase of the Utta Pradesh assembly elections 2017. An analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms states that there are 836 candidates in the fray.

143 candidates have declared serious criminal cases, including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, crimes against women etc. 15 candidates have declared cases related to murder.

During a meeting between Ghulam Nabi Azad of the Congress and Ram Gopal Yadav of the SP, the former sought 89 seats.

While the Samajwadi Party is ready to give the Congress a good number of seats, there are still some issues over a few constituencies. Sources in the Congress tell OneIndia that everything would be finalised by Thursday. Things are moving at a brisk pace as the campaign needs to get underway at the earliest.

The battle between father Mulayam Singh Yadav and son, Akhilesh for the ‘cycle,’ which is the SP’s symbol reached the ECI last week. The ECI had reserved orders on Friday.

For the SP over the past five years everything revolved round the cycle. Akhilesh has cycled in public several times to promote an eco-friendly transport. Further the state labour department has distributed lakhs of cycle in the past five years. 3,000 kilometres of cycle track too was constructed in the past five years.
