New Delhi, Jan 14: The curative petitions filed by the two convicts in the Nirbhaya case have been rejected by the Supreme Court. A bench of Justices N V Ramana, Arun Mishra, R F Nariman, R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan heard the petitions filed by Vinay Sharma (26) and Mukesh Kumar (32).
Mukesh Kumar and Vinay Sharma had filed curative petitions in the Supreme Court on Thursday.
New Delhi, Jan 09: More than a month before death warrants were issued in the Nirbhaya gangrape case, a jail in Bihar had been commissioned to make 10 execution ropes which are likely to be used for the four convicts scheduled to be hanged on January 22.
New Delhi, Jan 09: Nirbhaya’s killers have been ordered to hang on January 22 at 7 am. If the curative petition is rejected by the Supreme Court then the killers go to the gallows. There is a process that is involved before the convicts are hanged.

Yakub Memon, one of the key conspirators in the deadly 1993 Bombay blasts, has been hanged at the Nagpur Central jail. The TADA court had fixed July 30 as the date of hanging. Memon’s lawyers had petitioned the Supreme Court of India at midnight seeking a stay on the execution. They had contended that Memon cannot be hanged for a period of 14 days after a mercy petition was decided. The hanging of Ajmal Kasab appeared to be a hurried affair, but in reality it was a a well guarded secret and the mercy petition was rejected on November 5th itself.
