AIADMK war: Here is why the ECI froze the symbol

On Wednesday in a late night interim order, the Election Commission of India froze the AIADMK’s two leaves symbol.

It was hearing contesting claims by the Sasikala and O Panneerselvam faction for the symbol. As a result, both factions will have to choose new symbols and fight the R K Nagar by-elections on April 12.

UP elections: Parties bombard ECI with complaints

eciLucknow, Feb 9: Officers of the Election Commission of India were bombarded with questions during their visit to Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party, BJP, BSP all had questions and complains. The BJP sought to know why no assurance was being given by the EC for the protection of Hindus who migrated from Kairana, Meerut and Muzzafarnagar.

SP, on the other hand, complained about the BJP and BSP for raking up communal feelings during the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The BJP also complained that the state police chief Javed Ahmed had been delaying permission for their campaign.

Goa records high voter turn out at 83%, Punjab at 78.62 per cent

Cycle symbol belongs to Akhilesh, rules Election Commission

akhileshThe Election Commission of India said on Monday evening that the ‘Cycle’ symbol belongs to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The ECI on Monday held that the group led by Akhilesh is the Samajwadi Party, and is entitled to use its name and its reserved symbol the ‘cycle’ for the elections.

The ECI ruled in favour of the Akhilesh faction since he had the numbers.

Amid SP’s ‘cycle wars’, Amar Singh jets to London

amarsinghThe sudden departure by Amar Singh to London for two-and-a-half months has raised eyebrows in political circles. His departure comes at a stage when the warring factions of the Samajwadi Party await the verdict of the Election Commission which will decide on the party symbol.

Prior to his departure, Singh issued a statement in which he said that he was flying to London for treatment. He said that his treatment was underway, but he came down to Uttar Pradesh as he had been summoned by Mulayam Singh Yadav.

SP’s cycle wars: EC order only adds credence to family drama theory

amarakhimulThe verdict of the Election Commission of India declaring that the Akhilesh Yadav faction is the real Samajwadi Party may have put an end to the family feud. While that is what it appears to the public, the fact is this drama is likely to continue for some time, and it looks extremely stage-managed.

Amar Singh, who had become the face of the problem mysteriously left for London on Monday, much before the ECI could deliver its verdict on which faction gets to keep its party symbol. Another factor is the manner in which the Mulayam faction argued out their case before the ECI.

SP symbol feud: Here are the options before the ECI

cycleThe Election Commission of India will deliver its verdict on who would get to keep the Samajwadi Party’s ‘cycle’ symbol by January 17, the date the nomination process for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections begins. It was a hard fought battle at the Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi where the Akhilesh Yadav faction quoted numbers while his father Mulayam cited the party’s constitution.

The ECI is left with two options-either rule in favour of Akhilesh or Mulayam or freeze the symbol and tell both factions to look for a new one. All through the hearing the Akhilesh faction quoted their strength in numbers. The Mulayam faction however termed the meeting in which his son was made the chief illegal.

ECI orders removal of hoardings with PM’s picture in 5 poll bound states

bjp-up-poster-759The Election Commission of India on Tuesday ordered photographs of the Prime Minister to be removed from hoardings in all bound states.
The order is also applicable to pictures of chief ministers and politicians on hoardings in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa.

The ‘cycle war’ that came before the Yadav pari’war’

The fight was between N T Rama Rao and Chandrababu Naidu for the chief minister’s chair.

Who will ride SP’s cycle- Mulayam or Akhilesh: Here are ECI’s options

cycleNew Delhi, Jan 3: Mulayam Singh Yadav, the patriarch of the Samajwadi Party held a 40 minute meeting with officials of the Election Commission of India in which he staked a claim over the party’s symbol.

The SP’s cycle symbol is ours and Ram Gopal Yadav could not have taken any decision as he has been expelled, Mulayam told officials in the ECI.
