No dip in Doordarshan views despite increase of Pvt TV channels, Upper House told

New Delhi, Feb 10: There is no decline in viewership in the recent years inspite of increase of Private TV Channels in the broadcasting space during past years and fragmentation of audience due to many private TV channels relaying Doordarshan’s live content.

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting was replying to two questions in the Rajya Sabha posed by Akhilesh Prasad Singh.

Doordarshan to re-telecast ‘Ramayan’ starting tomorrow

ramayan-1New Delhi, Mar 27: The government has decided to re-telecast the serial Ramayan from tomorrow onwards. Doordarshan would telecast the epic serial starting Saturday said Union Minister, Prakash Javadekar.

He said that one episode would be telecast in the morning from 9 am to 10 am. A second episode would be telecast between 9 pm and 10 pm, the minister also said.

Doordarshan turns 58: Down memory lane and the way forward

Happy birthday to our national broadcaster Doordarshan. On September 15 every year Doordarshan celebrates its anniversary. Doordarshan, a division of the Prasar Bharati was started in Delhi on September 15 1959 with a small transmitter and a makeshift studio.

The regular daily transmission started in 1965 as a part of All India Radio. The first news bulletin was five minutes long and was started in 1965 with Pratima Puri being the first news reader.

Doordarshan looks for TRP increase, proposes Mahabharat type serials

In a bid to increase Television Rating Points or TRPs, Doordarshan has decided to telecast Mahabharat and Ramayan kind of mega serials. Such serials were not aired in the past couple of years. Now Doordarshan has decided that it would air these mega serials as they would increase TRPs and also fill in the coffers.
