Senior BJP leader, will for the first time appear before a special Central Bureau of Investigation court in connection with the Babri Masjid demolition case. Murli Manohar Joshi, and Union Minister Uma Bharti too are expected to appear before the special court on Tuesday. There may be more trouble brewing for BJP leaders L K Advani and others as a special CBI court hearing the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case is likely to frame additional charges.
L K Advani and others could be sentenced to five years in jail if conspiracy charges in the Babri Masjid demolition case is proven. The Supreme Court pointed out that a 25 year pendency in this case was ‘evasion of justice,’ while stating that it would direct the Lucknow court to complete the trial in two years while ordering a day to day hearing.
The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday told the Supreme Court that conspiracy charges against L K Advani and others must be revived in the Babri Masjid demolition case. The CBI made the submission in the SC which is hearing a plea against an order which had discharged Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti.
The BJP after its big win in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand is in a position to appoint its own candidate as President of India. With support from the AIADMK and the BJD, the BJP can go about chosing its own candidate as it is close to the magic number in the electoral college.
The new president will be elected after Pranab Mukherjee retires in July. The question is will the BJP appoint L K Advani as the President of India.
The case is being heard by the Supreme Court after charges were dropped by a trial court in 2001.
He is up against one of the most hyped candidates, Nandan Nilekani from the Bangalore South constituency. While the Congress has termed Nilekani as the giant killer, the man against him Ananth Kumar says that there is no threat at all.
People may be seeking a change, but the change they want is at the centre, Ananth Kumar the five time MP from Bangalore South says.
The Congress is not a match. Nandan Nilekani has a lot to take on. There are issues such as corruption in the UPA government, price rise and also unemployment. Nandan is not a threat to me, instead the programme which he heads, Aadhar is a threat to the country. The Aadhar should be done away with as it involves the data of Indian citizens held by some company in the United States of America. This was also rejected by the Supreme Court, but the UPA stubbornly went ahead with it. To be honest, I would not take pride in stating that I was part of the Aadhar programme in fact I would be ashamed of it.
