Teesta Setalvad and her husband stare at arrest after a sessions court rejected their anticipatory bail application in connection with the Rs 1.4 crore fund embezzlement case relating to their NGO Sabrang Trust.
Teesta Setalvad and her husband, Javed Anand were questioned by police officials for nearly six hours in connection with a case relating to misappropriation of funds received by her NGO from the Union HRD Ministry between 2010 and 2013.
The Supreme Court today said that the Ayodhya land dispute will not involve any third party. The order came while it rejected 32 intervening applications. Several persons including Aparna Sen, Anil Dharakar and Teesta Setalvad had filed applications to intervene in the dispute. They had sought to argue that the land at Ayodhya be used for secular use rather than religious use by adjudicating the dispute between Hindus and Muslims.
The Supreme Court has rejected a petition filed by activist Teesta Setalvad in which she had sought for de-freezing of her accounts. Teesta and her husband Anand had moved the SC against the government’s decision which had frozen the bank accounts.
Teesta Setalvad has told the Supreme Court that only Rs 7,850 was spent on liquor over the past seven years. She made the submission to the court while replying to the Gujarat government.
Citing the police case against activist Teesta Setalvad, a report has slammed India over alleged human rights violations. A US state department report titled Human Rights Practices in India for 2016 also made a mention about restrictions on foreign funding of Non-Governmental Organisations.
New Delhi, Dec 28: The Human Resource Development ministry might file cases against activist Teesta Setalvad for spreading disharmony and generating ill-will, Ranjit Kumar, Solicitor General of India, said.
While concurring with the findings of the inquiry panel, Kumar added that a First Information Report under Sections 153A and 153B of the Indian Penal Code can be filed.
New Delhi, Dec 15: A probe has been ordered to ascertain if there was hacking of government software which led to the automatic renewal of licenses of NGOs run by Teesta Setalvad and Greenpeace India.
The Home Ministry had on Wednesday cancelled the renewal of the licenses under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) of three NGOs.
New Delhi, Aug 17: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a notice to the Gujarat government on a plea filed by activist Teesta Setalvad challenging a decision in which accounts of her NGO were frozen. The Supreme Court directed the Gujarat government to file its reply while posting the matter to August 21.
During the course of the hearing, counsel for the Gujarat government sought two weeks time to file a reply. The matter will next be heard on August 21 as per the directive of the Supreme Court.
