While Priyanka Gandhi attempts to help Congress regain power in UP with the help of Bhim Army chief, Mayawati is clearly upset that the game played with Dalit vote bank may be going against her
Lucknow: Bahujan Samajwadi Party chief Mayawati had raised her fist in anger over Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi’s visit to Ravidas Mandir in Varanasi on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the influential Dalit saint last week.
Mayawati alleged that the Congress and BJP are using the name of the great Dalit saint for their political gains and agenda despite doing nothing for the backward class.
New Delhi, Jan 25: The list of star campaigners released by the Congress for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2017 has the name of Priyanka Gandhi. Her name is among the 40 released by the party for the crucial UP polls where the Congress is battling it out with its alliance partner, the Samajwadi Party.
Priyanka has always worked for the Congress from ‘behind the scenes’. Although she has access to the party strategy, the question is how much of a difference will she make to the Congress’ fortunes in the polls.
New Delhi, Jan 21: It may be a while before Uttar Pradesh gets to witness Priyanka Gandhi campaigning for a Samajwadi Party-Congress combine. Priyanka is being sent as an emissary to meet with Akhilesh Yadav, in a bid to strike a deal between the two parties for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2017.
While Ghulam Nabi Azad had on Tuesday announced a pact with the SP, there was a twist to the tale when the list of 210 candidates was announced on Friday. The SP’s list included nine seats that were held by the Congress and this has angered the grand old party.
Even as the alliance between the Akhilesh led faction of the Samajwadi Party and the Congress is being worked out, there is a strategy in place to get both Dimple Yadav and Priyanka Gandhi to campaign together.
During a strategy meeting, Akhilesh said that if the alliance worked out then Dimple and Priyanka could be the star campaigners for the SP-Congress combine.
There has been a raging debate over the security cover for BJP’ Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and the blasts at Patna has made this a talking point. When Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that SPG security is not necessary for Modi, he would need to answer why the government amended the SPG Act two years back to extend the SPG cover for Sonia and her family members.
The demand was that the Special Protection Group should be deployed for Modi in order to enhance the security of the man who is the top of the hit list of every terrorist outfit. However unfortunately there is politics attached to the security of a leader. Continue reading “SPG for Modi- The politics behind it”
Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi is mired in controversy after charges of corruption were levelled against by him by Arvind Kejriwal and Prashant Bhushan. While Vadra continues to deny the allegations as many in the Congress defend him, here is an extract from the book Sonia- a biography authored by Rashid Kidwai which suggests that this is not the first time that he is mired in controversy.
Kidwai in his book states that five years after the wedding that had taken place on February 18, 1997, Sonia Gandhi had to go public cautioning the party leaders not to have anything to do with close relatives of Robert Vadra. The directive came shortly after Robert himself issued a public notice snapping ties with his family. Sonia’s action was unusual, to say the least, as she was known to guard family’s privacy zealously. Continue reading “Is controversy new for Robert Vadra? No!”
