We filed 213 defamation cases in 5 years TN govt tells SC

TamilNadu_1Chennai, Aug 17: The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday submitted a list of defamation cases it has filed following a directive by the Supreme Court. The list contains the number of defamation cases that the Tamil Nadu government had filed between 2011 and 2016. The government of TN submitted in the Supreme Court that between 2011 and 2016 it has filed a total of 213 defamation cases.
The list also states that out of this 55 defamation cases have been filed against the media. Further it is also stated that 85 cases were filed against the DMK, 9 against the PMK and 7 against the Congress.

4 assemblies and its tainted members

The assembly elections are over and the results too are out. As the new governments get ready to take their place and commence their five year term, here is a report on nature of the MLAs these governments will have. The West Bengal assembly tops the list of criminal candidates and it has 102 such MLAs. Most of these MLAs have serious charges pending against them.

Among the four assemblies (Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, West Bengal andAssam) which have been analysed by the National Election Watch the richest assembly is without a doubt Tamil Nadu. It has 120 crorepati candidates in the assembly. The one with the least number of crorepatis is Puducherry with 19 such candidates.

Assam: 13 MLAs i.e. 10% (out of 126 analyzed) in the new Assembly have criminal cases pending against them as per their own declarations.  8 MLAs out of these 13 analyzed have declared serious IPC charges like kidnapping and extortion against them. This is an increase from the 2006 Assembly where the number of MLAs with criminal cases pending was only 7.

All major parties have MLAs with pending criminal cases against them. AIUDF has 6 MLAs out 18 MLAs analyzed (33%), INC has 4 out of 78 analyzed (5%), while AITC, AGP and BJP have 1 MLA each out of 1, 10 and 5 MLAs analyzed respectively with pending criminal cases.

A total of 47 MLAs (i.e. 37% of the total MLAs analyzed) are crorepatis

Puducherry:  9 MLAs i.e. 30% (out of 30 analyzed) in the new Assembly have criminal cases pending against them as per their own declarations. 2 MLAs out of these 9 analyzed have declared serious IPC charges like voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means and obscene acts and songs against them.

All major parties have MLAs with pending criminal cases against them. All India N.R. Congress has 5 (33%) MLAs out of 15 MLAs analyzed, AIADMK has 3 out of 5 analyzed (60%) and DMK has 1 (50%) out of 2 MLAs analyzed with pending criminal cases.

19 MLAs (i.e. 63% of the total MLAs analyzed) are crorepatis.

Tamil Nadu: 66 MLAs i.e. 29% (out of 231 analyzed) in the new Assembly have criminal cases pending against them as per their own declarations. 36 MLAs out of these 66 analyzed have declared serious IPC charges like murder, attempt to murder, robbery, extortion etc. against them.

All major parties have MLAs with pending criminal cases against them. AIADMK has 46 (31%) MLAs out 147 MLAs analyzed, DMK has 7 out of 23 analyzed (30%), CPI (M) has 3(30%) out of 10 analyzed and PMK has 2(67%) out of 3 MLAs analyzed with pending criminal cases.

West Bengal: 102 MLAs i.e. 35% (out of 293 analyzed) in the next Assembly have pending criminal cases as per their own declarations. 75 MLAs out of these 102 analyzed have declared serious IPC charges like murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and theft against them.

All major parties have MLAs with pending criminal cases. AITC has 69 MLAs out of 183 analyzed (38%), INC has 17 out of 42 (41%) and CPI (M) has 7 out of 40 (18%) MLAs analyzed with pending criminal cases.

47 MLAs (i.e. 16% of the total MLAs analyzed) are crorepatis.

Jaya, Karuna not the richest in TN

The AIADMK will go to the polls this year with 43 candidates who have pending criminal charges against them while their arch rival DMK has fielded 24 such candidates, according to a report by the National Election Watch.

The report has been prepared on the analysis of 679 candidates so far in the Tamil Nadu 2011 Assembly Elections. There are 125 candidates out of 679 analyzed, (i.e. about 18.4%) who have pending criminal cases against them as per their self sworn affidavits given to the Election Commission.

Out of these 125 candidates with pending criminal cases, 66 have declared pending serious criminal cases like murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, robbery, extortion etc. on them.

All major parties analyzed have given tickets to candidates with criminal backgrounds. AIADMK has 43 out of 144 (30 %), DMK has 24 out of 111 (22 %), BJP has 19 out of 169 (11 %), PMK has 14 out of 27 (52 %), DMDK has 7 out of 36 (19 %), INC has 6 out of 54 (11 %), VCK has 3 out of 6 (50 %) and CPI(M) has candidates with pending criminal cases.

All major parties have also given tickets to candidates with serious pending criminal cases like murder, attempt to murder, theft, dacoity etc. in the Tamil Nadu 2011 Assembly Election. Of the candidates analyzed, AIADMK has 27 , BJP has 10 , DMK has 9 , PMK has 6 , INC has 5 , DMDK has 2 , VCK has 2 , CPI(M) has 2 , PTP has 1 , BSP has 1 such candidate.

Top five candidates with pending criminal cases:

M Muruganandam (Nagapattinam )of the BJP has a total of ten cases ranging from attempt to murder and dacoity.

J Gurunathan of the PMK from the Jayankondam constituency has 9 cases ranging from voluntarily causing hurt and promoting enemity.

Raja of the DMK from the Anthiyur constituency has 4 pending cases ranging from theft to abduction.

P G Bose of the BJP fighting from the Didigul constituency has 4 pending cases which include attempt to murder.

R Elango of the BJP from the Peravurani constituency has 2 pending cases against him ranging from obscene acts and attempt to murder.

The richest:

When it comes to the richest candidates the AIADMK again leads the pack with 75 crorepati candidates while the DMK has 73.The Congress and the BJP come third and fourth with 33 and 25 candidates respectively. The DMDK and the PMK have 12 and 11 such candidates respectively.
