Panneerselvam EXPELLED from AIADMK; Edappadi new party chief

k-_palanisamyTamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has been expelled from the primary membership of the party, while senior leader and minister Edappadi Palaniswamy has been elected as the new leader of the AIADMK legislature party.

The decision to appoint Palaniswamy comes in the wake of Sasikala being convicted by the Supreme Court in the disproportionate assets case.

Following the conviction, Sasikala held a meeting of her party legislators at the Golden Bay Resort near Chennai. It was decided to appoint Palaniswamy as the new chief as Saskilala will have to go to jail and serve four years. At the meeting, that was attended by many including family members of Sasikala, it was also decided to sack OPS from the party’s primary membership.

Six options before the TN Governor once SC delivers the Jaya DA case verdict

vidyasagarraoBengaluru, Feb 14: The focus would shift back to the Governor of Tamil Nadu once the verdict in the Jayalalithaa disproportionate assets case is delivered by the Supreme Court of India at 10.30 am on Tuesday. The Governor will have to consider a host of options depending on what the Supreme Court has to say.
On Monday, the Attorney General of India, Mukul Rohatgi advised the Governor to hold a composite floor test giving both Sasikala and O Panneerselvam a chance to prove their majority on the floor of the House.
In a composite floor test, all members would have to cast a secret ballot indicating which candidate they would support. All members would have to compulsorily sign on the ballot paper with their names before casting the same.

sasi2AIADMK interim general secretary Sasikala Natarajan has been put on wait by Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao, who has refused to budge and yield to any pressure from Sasikala and her supporters. Although there is no official statement from Raj Bhavan, sources say that Rao is waiting for the verdict in the disproportionate assets case. Sasikala’s impatience is visible.
She has already twice visited the resort in which her MLAs have been staying in the last two days. She has been issuing veiled threats and has even gone on to say that she is not being invited (to form the government) because she is a woman. Her impatience and desperation is to do with the fact that Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who very surprisingly revolted has been getting a lot of support both from the public and cadres of the AIADMK.

Sasikala vs OPS: Legal options available for governor

The governor has also sought legal opinion on how to deal with the ongoing political crisis in the state. OPS is currently the caretaker chief minister of the state. O Paneerselvam too is a contender to the post, but doing the math it appears to be tough for him to get the numbers.
