Venkaiah Naidu seems to be heading for an impressive win in the elections to the next Vice President of India. After his candidature was announced, the BJP led NDA was expecting at least 488 votes for him in the electoral college. The elections will be held on August 5.
Venkaiah Naidu the NDA’s candidate for the vice presidential election is heading for a comfortable win. Naidu was selected by the NDA to take on the opposition’s candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi in the VP poll to be held on August 5.
Being appointed as the Vice President candidate and then filing his nomination meant he had to give up active politics. However for Venkaiah Naidu, the NDA’s VP candidate, it was not an easy decision to make.
The battle for the next Vice President of India will be fought between Venkaiah Naidu and Gopalkrishna Gandhi. The BJP on Monday chose Naidu to take on Gandhi in the election to be held in the month of August.
While Narendra Modi became the first Prime Minister of India to be born after independence, Venkaiah Naidu as the Vice President will have the same distinction. If elected as the next Vice President he will be the first candidate born after Independence to hold the post.
Naidu was born on July 1 1949 at Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. All the 12 Vice Presidents of India have been born before Independence. Mohammad Hamid Ansari, the current Vice President of India was born in 1937. The first VP of India, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born in the year 1888.
The BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and national president of the party, Amit Shah held discussions with senior leaders on the selection of a candidate for the next Vice President of India. The opposition has already declared Gopal Krishna Gandhi as its candidate for the VP elections.
The opposition has named Gopal Krishna Gandhi as its candidate for the post of next Vice President of India. The decision to name Gandhi was taken at a meeting of the joint opposition held at New Delhi just a while ago.
The elections to the next Vice- President of India will be held on August 5. The announcement was made by the Election Commission of India. The commission will ensure that the elections are free and fair. The electoral college will elect the next VP of India, the ECI also said.
Hamid Ansari will step down as the Vice President of India in August. While the BJP has already been looking for the next President of India, the race is also on for the next Vice President of India. For now the front runner for the post of President is Jharkhand Governor.
