The Gujarat High Court has acquitted Mayaben Kodnani in the Naroda Patiya riot case. The court held that there was no criminal conspiracy by her and the witnesses were not reliable. The court also acquitted Ganpat Chhara and Haresh Chhara in the case. However the conviction of former Bajrang Dal leader, Babu Bajrangi has been upheld.
Maya Kodnani a former BJP minister was in hospital at the time of the 2002 Naroda Gam riots, a defence witness told the trial court . Raiben Thakor, the witness, was questioned by Kodnani’s lawyers as well as the prosecution before the judge for the Special Investigation Team (SIT) cases, P B Desai.
Former Gujarat BJP minister, Maya Kodnani has filed an application in the Gujarat High Court seeking to summon 8 persons including BJP’s national president Amit Shah in the Naroda Patiya massacre case. The court directed the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team to file its reply.
