It would not be wrong to say that the defeat in Koratagere in 2013 cost Dr. G Parameshwar the chief minister’s chair. Although there was Siddaramaiah leading the campaign Parameshwar was always in contention for several reasons, one of which was that he is an old-timer in the Congress.
A big surprise- G Parameshwar the state Congress chief has lost his lead to the JD(S) at the Koratagere constituency. Parameshwar who is eyeing the post of Chief Minister now faces a very tough battle against the JD(S) in Koratagere. He started off well, but slowly slipped to second position. If he loses the seat his chances of becoming a Chief Minister becomes impossible.
There are many constituencies in Karnataka which have been termed as the constituency of a Chief Minister. Hubli-Dharwad central- Jagadish Shettar, Ramanagar- H D Kumaraswamy, Varuna- Siddaramaiah. Adding to this list is the Koratagere constituency from where Dr G Parameshwar, the Congress Chief will contest the elections.
There is a great deal of enthusiasm among the people of this constituency in Tumkur district. It is a backward constituency and relatively a new one too.
