The Enforcement Directorate which filed a case under the PMLA against Karti Chidambaram has decided to widen the probe. Enforcement Directorate sources say it will probe the alleged proceeds of crime generated in the case and may also attach assets of the various accused.
The Enforcement Directorate has filed a case under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering act against Karti Chidambaram son of former union minister union minister P Chidambaram. The ED is likely to issue summons to him soon. Karti is however away at London.
Two days after the Central Bureau of Investigation raided him, Karti Chidambaram, the son of former Union Finance Minister, P Chidambaram has left for London.
Searches are underway and some important seizures such as hard discs and documents have been made, the CBI said on the raids that were conducted at the residence of former union minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti.
The CBI on Tuesday carried out searches in 14 different places including the residence of Karti Chidambaram. The raids were conducted in connection with the alleged criminal misconduct in grant of Foreign Investment Promotion Board approval to foreign investments received by INX Media Pvt Ltd formerly owned by Peter and Indrani Mukerjea.
The father-son duo of Chidambaram and Karti have been accused of receiving bribes and abusing positions of power and this led to a CBI raid earlier today. 17 locations in Chennai, Noida, Karaikudi and Delhi were searched by the officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation. The raids are a spill over of the probe conducted by the Enforcement Directorate.

The CBI has conducted raids at the residence of former union minister P Chidambaram and his son’ house in Chennai. The CBI has raided 16 different locations. The CBI has also conducted raids at Gurgaon, Delhi and Delhi in connection with the same case. The CBI has registered an FIR in relation to the irregularities Foreign Investment Promotion Board Clearance given to the INX media.
It may be recalled that the ED too had probed INX media for forex violations. The CBI raid is a continuation of the investigation done by the Enforcement Directorate which had tracked three transactions done by Karti Chidambaram. Documents pertaining to the same are being searched, the CBI officials said. Further the CBI is also finding out about the Rs 60 lakh that was paid from INX Media to Northstar Software Solutions ltd.
The Enforcement Directorate has issued a show cause notice to Karti P Chidambaram in a case relating to FEMA violation to the tune of RS 2,262 crore. The ED also served notices to Advantage Strategic Consulting of Rs 45 crore for FEMA contraventions in the sale of Vasan shares to overseas investors.
