The Karnataka Assembly Election 2018 got more crowded with Nitish Kumar of the JD(S) stating that his party would contest around 25 to 30 seats. The move comes in the wake of the party trying to increase its presence beyond Bihar.
New Delhi: Out of the 63 candidates contesting the Rajya Sabha elections, 16 have declared criminal cases against them.
There are no JD(U), Shiv Sena or AIADMK names in the Modi Cabinet reshuffle. The JD(U) had indicated on Saturday that there have been no talks on the reshuffle and it is unlikely to join the Cabinet.
The union Cabinet reshuffle is expected to take place before the end of this month. The Narendra Modi led cabinet is expected to induct two members of the JD(U) and AIADMK, sources say.
Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar is likely to become the NDA convenor. The JD(U) is also likely to get two berths in the Cabinet reshuffle that is round the corner.
With a split in the JD(U) seeming more evident than ever, the party has asked its senior leader, Sharad Yadav not to cross the line. Yadav had said that the party had broken the trust of 11 crore people by aligning with the BJP in Bihar.
The rift in the JD(U) seems evident now. On Tuesday during the Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat, JD(U) spokesperson said that the lone MLA had voted for the BJP. However the MLA himself did not make it clear and said he had voted for the nation. Sharad Yadav who has been sulking ever since Nitish Kumar dumped the RJD and allied with the BJP decided to congratulate Ahmed Patel. The Congress’ Ahmed Patel won after a late night drama on Tuesday thanks to the Election Commission of India invalidating two votes.
The BJP is likely to offer the JD(U) two Cabinet berths in a bid to quell a rebellion. A few leaders have expressed unhappiness with the decision taken by Nitish Kumar to ally with the government and form the government in Bihar.
The BJP leaders are coming and they will have dinner with us, Nitish Kumar said upon his return from the Governor’s residence. Nitish ahd returned to 1-Anne Marg after tendering his resignation and at that time, there was no formal talk of an alliance with the BJP. Back at home, Nitish watched Lalu Prasad Yadav speak on television. It was at that time that Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted a congratulatory message to which Nitish Kumar responded promptly.
Nitish Kumar who was sworn as Bihar Chief Minister for the 6th time will face a crucial trust vote in the legislative assembly today. The JD(U) and the BJP claim to have the support of 132 legislators.
