The high-profile questioning of former union minister, P Chidambaram by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the INX Media case lasted over four hours on Wednesday.
New Delhi: A special court has granted CBI custody of Peter Mukerjea till March 31. The order was passed following an application filed by the CBI seeking Peter’s custody in connection with the INX Media case.
After confirming that she had paid a bribe to Karti Chidambaram in the INX Media case, Indrani Mukerjea has now agreed to identify the location too. It may be recalled that Karti and Indrani were brought face to face at the Byculla prison in Mumbai last week.
A special court has remanded Karti Chidambaram to judicial custody till March 24th. This means he will be lodged at the Tihar jail until March 24.
Constantly under bright lights and not allowed to sleep is what Karti Chidambaram’s counsel told the Special CBI court which heard his remand application. Karti was remanded in CBI custody till March 12.
The Delhi High Court has granted interim protection to Karti Chidambaram from arrest by the Enforcement Directorate till March 20. The relief was granted till the next date of hearing and the court also issued notices to the Centre and the Enforcement Directorate returnable by March 20.
The Central Bureau of Investigation will on March 9 move applications seeking production of three persons in connection with the INX Media case. While at first it was decided by the press for a narco-analysis test on Karti Chidambaram, the accused in the case, for now, there is no final decision as yet.
For the Central Bureau of Investigation, the past few days have been tough. Probing Karti Chidambaram is not an easy job and while he uses legal acumen to dodge questions, his tantrums too are unbearable.
Next up is P Chidambaram. After his son, Karti Chidambaram was arrested and questioned by the CBI in connection with the INX Media case, the CBI has indicated that it would soon question Chidambaram, the former union minister.
The Enforcement Directorate has forwarded details of the clearances given for Foreign Direct Investments in four more cases when P Chidambaram was the finance minister. The details of the same were shared with the Central Bureau of Investigation.
