States plan staggered lockdown exit strategy

States like Telangana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand indicated that some restrictions would be in place even after the 21 day lockdown ends.

Despite repeated requests and advise, Maulana Saad remained adamant and went ahead with the congregation. His adamance not only put the lives of his followers to risk, but also ensured that the number of cases across the country spiked as the members passed on the virus to many others.

UNSC set to hold closed door informal discussions on COVID-19 this week

unsc-1aNew Delhi, Apr 06: The United Nations Security Council will hold a closed door informal consultation on COVID-19 this week. This comes after 10 non-permanent members led by Dominican Republic forced the UN Secretary General to hold a discussion on the pandemic.

This development comes after China demitted the Presidency of the UN Security Council last week. It may be recalled that Estonia had attempted to have a discussion on the pandemic, but was blocked by China, Russia and South Africa. It was argued that this was not a peace and security issue and hence could not be part of the UNSC’s mandate.

Unlocking India post April 14: Govt plans two zones to curtail coronavirus outbreak

lcokdown1New Delhi, Apr 05: The Union Health Ministry is putting in place measures to ensure that the coronavirus does not spread further, following the nation wide lockdown coming to an end. Post the lockdown that ends on April 14, the focus would be on the hotspots. Ministry sources tell OneIndia that the focus would be largely on the hotspots and densely populated areas.

The government is taking a cue from the 2009 outbreak of H1NI, which had a bigger impact on well connected cities when compared to smaller towns and villages with lower population.

How Tablighi Jamaat has become the super spreader of the coronavirus

nizamuddinNew Delhi, Apr 03: Those who attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation at Nizamuddin in Delhi have been rightly called as the super spreaders of the coronavirus by many. Nearly 65 per cent of the new all India cases are linked to the event that took place in the city.

At least 295 delegates from across the country who had attended the religious congregation at Delhi last month have tested positive, accounting for more than 60 per cent of the 485 confirmed cases across the country recorded till Thursday.

Using coronavirus, Pakistan rakes up Kashmir issue at UN

New Delhi, Mar 30: Pakistan has yet again raked up the Kashmir issue and this time the country has linked it to the coronavirus outbreak.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office made public the letter written by its foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to the UN Secretary General and the president of the security council. In the letter he describes as dire humanitarian situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Demand created: Why no country wants to take on China on the coronavirus
