New Delhi, Jan 31: The Centre is all set to issue a fresh ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India. The ban on the outfit under the Unlawful (Activities) Prevention Act will continue, the Union Home Ministry has indicated.
West Bengal has been a state on the boil. It has seen a spike in incidents of communal violence over the past three years. In fact, data compiled by the Union Home Ministry show a clear increase in the number of incidents relating to communal violence.
The incident occurred in Patan district after a mob ransacked and set ablaze 50 houses.
The warning of another incident of sacrilege just ahead of the Punjab assembly elections is what has worried security agencies. On October 12, 2015 several pages of the Guru Granth were found torn at Bargaari in Faridkot, Punjab.
Intelligence agencies fear a repeat of such an incident to incite communal tension just before the state goes to polls on February 4.
Several MP’s and MLAs have declared cases in which they have been charged with inciting communal tension. Association for Democratic Reforms in a report gives a picture of the elected representatives with such charges.
