Smuggling Corridor: From beedis to arms for Naxals, TN ports become abuzz amid Lanka crisis

While the smuggling racket between Sri Lanka and India is nothing new, estimates reveal that it has gone up five-fold in the past couple of months.

New Delhi, July 20: The National Investigation Agency today conducted a search at Trichy (Tiruchirappalli) in Tamil Nadu. The searches were carried out at a special camp which lodges foreigners with criminal records.

The camp houses over 100 foreigners from Sri Lanka, Bulgaria, Russia, United Kingdom, Bangladesh and Kenya. It was from this camp that last year a Bulgarian national had managed to escape. In 2019 a Nigerian national lodged at this camp too had escaped.

Mundra Port drug seizure: NIA set to unravel larger Afghan plot

New Delhi, Dec 15: The National Investigation Agency has arrested an Afghan national in connection with the Mundra Port drugs seizure case. The NIA had earlier arrested seven persons in connection with the case.

The NIA had registered the case following the seizure of 2988.21 Kgs of heroin. During the investigation, the NIA found that the Afghan national was involved in the conspiracy of transporting drugs concealed in the import consignment semi-processed talcstones originating from Afghanistan.

Drugs on cruise case: What we know about the NCB’s new probe officer Sanjay Singh

New Delhi, Nov 06: The Narcotics Control Bureau has formed a Special Investigation Team under deputy general (ops) to probe the six cases being investigated by the agency’s Mumbai zonal unit. These also include the drugs on cruise case in which Aryan Khan is an accused.

Singh has plenty of experience and is a 1996 batch Indian Police Service officer of the Odisha cadre. He has served with the Odisha Police and also with the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Mundra Port drug seizure: NIA probing Afghan angle

New Delhi, Oct 12: After taking over the drug seizure case from the Mundra Port in Gujarat, the National Investigation has raided several locations. The NIA is probing an Afghan angle to this case as the drugs originated from that country which was in August taken over by the Taliban.

The case relates to seizure of 2988.21 Kgs of Narcotics substance (Heroin) seized at Mundra Port, Gujarat disguised as consignment of ‘Semi-processed Talc stones’ originating from Afghanistan which had arrived from Bandar Abbas Port, Iran.

How an AP firm became a front to smuggle heroin worth Rs 20k crore from Afghanistan

New Delhi, Sep 21: A firm in Vijayawada has caught all the attention after a huge consignment of heroin was confiscated at the Mundra Port in Gujarat. While it was initially suspected that the consignment was meant to reach Vijayawada, it has now been clarified that it was supposed to be delivered in Delhi.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had seized 2,988.22 kilograms of heroin. The estimated value of the seized heroin is Rs 20,000 crore. The shipment from Afghanistan was mixed with talc stone powder and packed in two containers.

NIA charges trafficker involved in supply of 500 kgs of heroin from Pakistan to Gujarat

New Delhi, Sep 14: The National Investigation Agency has filed a chargesheet against a drug trafficker in connection with a narcotics case registered in Salaya, Gujarat.

The case is related to a criminal conspiracy hatched by accused Arshad Sota in Dubai along with Pakistani nationals for delivering narcotic drugs in Gujarat from Pakistan. In furtherance of conspiracy, 500 kg of narcotic drugs were delivered in three consignments. The last consignment was in the form of supply of 200 kg of Heroin.

Investigation revealed that the consignment of 200 kg of heroin was delivered by earlier Razak Adam Sumra, Karim Md. Siraj and Sunil Vithal Barmase to Indresh Rambachan Nishad at Gandhidham.

Sri Lankan national arrested in Kerala arms bust case

New Delhi, Sep 09: The National Investigation Agency has arrested a drugs and arms trafficker in connection with the Vizhinjam Arms case. The accused has been identified as Arasaratinam Ramesh who is a Sri Lankan national.

The case was registered in April in Kerala following the seizure of illegal arms and ammunition from the accused who was aboard a Sri Lankan fishing boat. A huge quantity of drugs were seized from during the operation.

Investigation found that the accused was in the illegal possession of five AK-47 rifles, 1,000 numbers of 9mm ammunition.The case was later taken over by the NIA.

NIA chargesheet reveals big details of narco smuggling route between Pak-Gujarat-Punjab

New Delhi, May 25: The National Investigation Agency has filed a chargesheet in connection with a narcotics case that arose out of Gujarat.

The NIA charged on Indresh Kumar following the seizure of narcotics at Salaya, Gujarat. The case was initially registered by the Gujarat ATS following the arrest of Aziz Abdul Bhagad in 2018. A total of 4.949 kilograms of heroin worth Rs 14.94 lakh was seized from him.

300 kilograms of cocaine worth Rs 2k crore originating from Panama seized at Tuticorin Port

New Delhi, Apr 22: Based on specific intelligence the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has seized 300 kilograms of cocaine valid at Rs 2,000 crore at the Tuticorin Port.

The DRI had information that a consignment of cocaine would reach the VOC Port, Tuticorin. Upon interception, it was declared that the container had only wooden logs. The container had originated from Panama, transited through the ports of Antwerp and Colombo.
