Those facing serious offences should be barred from contesting polls: EC


The Election Commission of India has proposed a law to bar people, accused of an offence punishable with at least five years, from contesting elections after charges were framed against them by a court. The ECI told the Supreme Court that an amendment to the law has been proposed to the Centre.

  1. Not only offences but those suffering from health problems should also be barred from becoming MLA/MPS. A medical fitness is a must. Recently, almost all MLAs, Ministers of kerala have been found in spending huge Govt funds for comfort treatments, specs, foreign treatments etc. MLA/MPS, Ministers should be asked to avail treatment of Govt Hospitals
